Contest Rules

Beat the Band is sponsored by Chandler Center for the Arts in Randolph, Vermont, a non-profit community arts organization. The contest is governed by the Official Rules below. The results of the contest as determined by voting on the contest’s Facebook page are final in all respects. The contest is subject to all federal, state and local laws and regulations.

Beat the Band is in no way sponsored, endorsed or administered by, or associated with, Facebook. Any questions, comments or complaints regarding the contest should be directed to Chandler, not Facebook.

Beat the Band Official Contest Rules

  1. A band is defined as three (3) or more musicians in an ensemble.
  2. Video submissions must feature original music.
  3. Submissions will be accepted Monday January 1 through midnight on Wednesday March 4, 2015. Voting begins Monday March 9 and closes Tuesday March 24, 2015.
  4. All eligible video entries received during the submission period will be posted on Beat the Band’s Facebook page and can receive votes. The five (5) bands with the highest number of votes will move onto the next stage of the contest and will be invited to be part of the Beat the Band finals at Chandler Music Hall on Saturday April 25, 2015.
  5. Only one vote per video per Facebook account will be accepted.
  6. The five bands that have qualified for the opportunity to compete for the first- and second-place prizes will be notified Wednesday March 25, 2015 and must respond – either declining or accepting the opportunity to perform April 25 – by March 30, 2015. If no response is received, Chandler reserves the right to choose a replacement.
  7. During the April 25 event audience members can vote for their favorite among the five performing bands. Audience votes will be tallied at the end of the evening to determine the winner and the runner-up. Ticket-holders are the only people eligible to vote in this final round of the contest.
  8. Prizes! No contest would be complete without great prizes! After determining a mutually agreeable performance date in Chandler’s 2015-2016 performance season with input from Chandler staff, the winning and second-place bands will perform at Chandler with the runner-up opening for the winner. The net ticket income will be split 50/50 between Chandler and the bands, with the winner getting 35% of the gate and the runner-up getting 15%. The bigger the audience, the bigger the prize!
For example, if 250 people buy tickets, the winning band would get approximately $650 and the runner-up would take home $280. Not bad for a night playing music in a great venue!
  9. Winning bands may not trade with another band the opportunity to perform at Chandler on April 25.
  10. Minimum age to enter is sixteen (16).
  11. Entries may not exceed five (5) minutes in length.
  12. Entries must be uploaded to YouTube after the previous Beat The Band Showdown and feature new content.
  13. The contest is open to both amateur and professional musicians.
  14. No vulgar or profane entries will be accepted. Chandler reserves the right to refuse submissions if they are considered lewd or potentially offensive.
  15. Once submitted, Chandler may use excerpts for promotional purposes with no compensation due to any or all members of the band.
  16. Limit one entry per band.
  17. Email addresses provided with each entry will only be used for contest updates and to contact the winners. Phone numbers may also be used to contact the winners. The band description will be used with the video descriptions and in press releases for the April 25 event. We promise not to share this information with any other organization.
  18. Finally, the best-laid plans sometimes go awry. Chandler reserves the right to refine these rules, if necessary, and to cancel the contest if we do not receive a sufficient number of entries.
